While many computer users eagerly look forward to operating system updates, there is a downside. Even when the necessary changes are made, a few bugs may still be encountered. The problem is that software manufacturers are sometimes slow to make the necessary changes to maintain compatibility.

Windows Vista

After much publicized delay, five years after Windows XP hit the market, Microsoft released its Vista Operating System. As expected, many types of software developed before Vista’s release encountered compatibility issues. It was reported that user satisfaction with the Vista OS was lower than with previous Microsoft offerings.

For some users, some components of their software worked after installing Vista while others didn’t. These issues were not limited to just one particular software, but were spread across a range of software. These included remote desktop products, movie and photo editing software, graphics design software and email programs.

With file transfer products, remote control software and any communications based option, security is always a major concern. While Microsoft sought to improve security with Vista, compatibility limitations exposed flaws.

Dealing with the Issues

Vista users have bemoaned the lack of drivers for peripherals such as scanners. Most vendors have addressed this issue, although compatibility concerns still appear from time to time. A release from Microsoft in 2007 directly addressed such concerns and underscored its commitment to improving reliability, especially as it relates to hardware. Vista users with older hardware may still encounter difficulties from time to time.

For some users, the fix was simply to go back to using Windows XP. For those without this option, however, the first step was to get an assurance of compatibility before upgrading. Microsoft also offers solutions to common problems on its website and there are many forums online that can help. For the most part, the solution to compatibility issues came from the vendors of the affected software.

With the release Platform Update for Windows Vista in late 2009 Microsoft hopes to put an end to most issues encountered by users. It is also expected to make it easier for software developers to make their products work with Windows 7. This is good news for those who are big on remote access.

The most recent terrorist incident has left many people asking questions and rightfully so. Where were all the safeguards put in place after one of the most horrific incidents in recent memory? As we learn more about the failed bombing attempt last December, and the intelligence failures, frenzied discussions are taking place.

Naturally, most of these discussions are focused on how to prevent future attacks. Recent reports have emerged which suggest that the new travel security measures are already leading to confusion. Clearly a way needs to be found to effectively coordinate efforts of the various agencies around the world.

How Remote Connection Desktop can Help

Companies with geographically diverse locations and connections have already begun to utilize remote connection desktop tools with great effect. Cutting travel costs is the most obvious benefit, but it has many other practical advantages including:

Technical support

Sales force mobilization

On the job training

Distance learning

It seems reasonable to suggest that desktop sharing tools could play a large role in helping to coordinate intelligence efforts. If this sounds like a stretch to some, consider the fact that the Department of Defense (DOD) already uses collaboration tools to promote cooperation between agencies.

In fact, the DOD recently took steps to widen its net of partners who are able to access these tools. The same outlook can be applied to efforts to ensure cooperation between anti-terrorist agencies in countries around the world. After all, this is exactly what real time collaboration is designed to do, remove the limitations of physical borders. Naturally it is nearly impossible to imagine just what goes into day-to-day counter terrorism activities. However, possible scenarios for utilizing application sharing tools to this end include:

Immediate updates of new security procedures can be provided to all relevant parties

Changes to no-fly lists and other such data can be quickly transmitted to any agency cooperating in the effort

Agencies involved can be quickly notified of any changes on the ground which will impact their efforts, and respond accordingly

Implementation of new security measures can go much more smoothly, especially since all details would be fully worked out before the process starts

News reports suggest that some agencies have been slow to follow the new rules that have been outlined. This is partially responsible for the confusion being experienced by many travelers. Secure online collaboration tools might not be a quick fix, but it could help to ensure that everyone is on the same page. If collaboration tools work so well for the DOD, they may just work for international counter terrorism agencies.

Online collaboration company Huddle.net just added a bit of muscle to its offerings. The company recently signed a deal with RHUB Communications which will enhance its ability to interact with customers. Huddle will incorporate the flexibility of RHUB’s Turbomeeting into its already formidable networking platform.

Alistair Mitchell Huddle’s co-founder and CEO was quoted as saying of the pairing, “The addition of TurboMeeting technologies to our platform strengthens Huddle’s position as a single place online that offers all the necessary tools to get stuff done, where teams can work effectively across all boundaries.” Basically, Huddle will now offer its customers the ability to interact with the company in real time.

The major plus for the company, or any other that should decide to strike such a deal, is that they can be in touch with customers like never before. They can have immediate feedback on services and respond quickly to customer queries or concerns. Huddle’s timing could not have been better. RHUB only just recently released the newest version of its Turbomeeting software. With enhanced video and collaboration capabilities, it is easy to see why it is a perfect fit for any company.

Turbomeeting 4.0 is now capable of handling larger meetings and has Webcam capabilities. Huddle is in the business of providing customers the ability to manage online workspaces for project management and file storage and sharing. Adding RHUB’s solutions will allow for more robust delivery of services with instantaneous communication and interaction among users.

Huddle is by no means the only company that has muscled up with web conferencing solutions from RHUB. Network Logistic Inc., ConferTel and Altos Solutions are just a few of the names that have added value and efficiency to their service delivery and customer interactions.

Companies thrive on feedback, even of the negative variety. Any company that utilizes web conferencing software or appliances is certainly making a step in the right direction. These solutions are providing essential tools for the merging of ideas and improving workflow. For any business owner looking for that needed boost, examine what a web conferencing solution can do in that regard.

If your computer is running slow and keeps freezing up and crashing, then chances are you have a corrupt registry. Registry problems are not always caused by malware or viruses. At times, your registry may be corrupt because a deleted program was not uninstalled completely and the key entries were not removed from the registry. It is vital that you fix your registry if you want to increase the speed of your computer.

The registry is an extremely important component of your computer. The registry holds the values of the hardware and software programs that are necessary for smooth operation. Just a simple alteration could lead to unresponsive hardware or computer programs. It makes no difference if you are installing and removing help desk software, gaming software, remote PC software or new hardware, the registry is affected and must be properly maintained to keep your machine running smoothly.

Now, if you are a computer support technician or any other type of remote desktop IT professional, then you know exactly what a registry represents. You understand just want cleaning up a corrupt registry can do for your computer speed.

Registry Cleaner Software

One of the safest ways to solve the problems of a corrupt registry is to download registry cleaner software. Several choices are available by searching online. Registry cleaner software will scan, clean and repair your computer’s registry.

These programs take all of the technical guesswork out of cleaning your computer registry. Some programs are so efficient they seem to do all of the work for you. The best part about registry cleaner software is you do not have to be an expert in computer registry to get the job done. Most programs are simple and include easy-to-follow instructions. Remember to backup the existing registry before you begin, just to be safe.

Registry cleaner software runs a scan on the computer and then lets you know how many errors were found on your system. Next, you will have the option to create a backup or fix the errors. It is always a good idea to create a backup before you perform any other actions. That way if the cleaning session does not work out as planned, you will be able to go right back to the way you had it.

Click the button to begin cleaning the registry. The registry cleaner program will proceed to fix the problems with your computer’s registry. The entire cleaning process should only take about ten to twenty minutes.

Cleaning your registry is only one way to speed up your computer. If you use web conference software, such as the products offered by RHUB, you have less concern because there is nothing to download and computer support is easily accessed.

Many parents are concerned about their child’s online activities, what websites they visit, who they are speaking to and if they are making plans without their permission to visit people they do not know.

RHUB, the leader in Web conferencing and remote access solutions has the answer for worried parents and that is monitoring their child’s computer with an RHUB appliance that goes on detected by the child.

First, log on to your child’s computer as an administrator user, next install the TurboMeeting client and schedule a remote meeting. Name the “computer” field the same as the child’s name. Start the scheduled meeting, then immediately click “tools” and check “hide this meeting” then log out from the computer.

From this point on you can monitor your child’s every keystroke, every website visited and all activity from anywhere at any time.

To monitor a remote desktop via browser, simply sign in the TurboMeeting client, locate the scheduled meeting for the child’s computer, click “invite” and write down the view only URL. You can then use this URL to monitor the child’s desktop by any browser including your Blackberry or iPhone.

In order to control your child’s desktop via remote, simply sign in the TurboMeeting client, locate the scheduled meeting for the child’s computer, click on the “access” link and join the meeting. Now you have full control of the remote desktop.

A few years ago, terms like ‘remote desktop’ and ‘remote support’ might have seemed alien to many people. Today they are part of the vocabulary of the fast growing field of web conferencing. While companies are always seeking ways to increase productivity, the current economic slump has imbued this effort with a sense of urgency.

When it comes to business trends, this is a particularly useful one. The Internet has become something of a gift to business that extends far beyond the dot COM boom of the late 1990s. It has helped many companies to reach new customers, as well as to forge partnerships and woo investors.

The most obvious effect of web conferencing is reducing travel costs, but there are also a number of other benefits. Here are a few more reasons why this is a smart business decision:

Improved delivery of information: In the time it takes to organize a traditional meeting, one could be well underway with web conferencing. Companies can feed vital information to their employees quickly, with minimal impact on workflow. With features like remote desktop, computers can be accessed from anywhere and at any time.

Meeting modern day challenges: The current business environment demands that companies think globally. Web conferencing tools create a portal to new customers where the business can make the case for their product directly. With remote support any company can effectively reach PC and Mac customers, constantly providing updates or product support.

Improved efficiency: Since workers no longer need to leave their desks to attend meeting, this lead to more efficient use of company time. Remote desktop allows them to access other computers so they can keep working while getting additional files.

Better project management: Projects can be closely monitored with frequent updates provided. Since web conferencing allows for meetings to be stored, even personnel that miss meetings can be kept up to date.

Better IT support: Large companies understand the difficulty of keeping all facets of the company in synch. Computer issues can make this even more difficult. With remote support technicians can access computers whether or not they are on the network and quickly resolve problems.

Web conferencing is a key tool for helping business work not just harder but smarter. It not only speeds up the flow of information within the organization, but it can also be used as a training tool. Workers can attend important training seminars without leaving their offices and constantly upgrade their skills.

Tapping into the range of options provided by online conferencing is easier than most companies might think. Some companies such as RHUB Communications offer free trials and useful demonstrations on their websites. The software is either web based or downloadable, while some companies provide appliances that require no download. Some of these are similar in function to the RHUB 4-in-1 Web Conferencing Appliance which come with remote support for PCs and Macs and remote access to other computers.
